If you have driven up Highway 4 east of Murphys in the past few weeks, you may have noticed that the Murphys Afterbay (MAB) was looking a little lower than normal! This was due to our conveyance staff lowering the reservoir intentionally to allow for an inspection of the spillway and for maintenance to take place. The inspection found the spillway to be in excellent condition, and Utica staff are refilling the reservoir to full capacity in preparation for the upcoming maintenance outage in November.
The MAB spillways is inspected annually by the Division of Safety of Dams (DSOD). DSOD is a part of California Department of Water Resources and has been regulating dam safety since 1929. Utica works tirelessly to ensure the safety of our community, and is committed to ensuring our facilities meet and exceed state standards. Utica is grateful for the hardworking staff that help to maintain our facilities in excellent working order. In order to provide improvements and upgrades, Utica regularly seeks state and federal funding through grants to keep ratepayer costs low and our infrastructure in exemplary condition
